Call of Duty Black Ops has a new expansion pack called Escalation, which was released for the PC on June 2nd, 2011. Black Ops fans will find 4 new multiplayer maps and another new Black Ops zombies map called Call of the Dead for a total of 5 brand new maps. The new zombies map allows fans to experience new playable characters. Take control of one of the zombie killing members consisting of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Robert Englund, Danny Trejo, and Michael Rooker. You will also encounter the fearsome and dangerous George A. Romero on the remote Siberian island that is Call of the Dead.

Other maps include a battle on a Cuban luxury hotel and casino. Close quarters combat at the scene of a U.S military convoy ambush. A Soviet Russian zoo, and a remote Russian farming town containing Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Xbox gamers had access to the Escalation DLC months before and there are already thousands of Black Ops demo videos posted on YouTube. You can view the game demo for yourself or you can go and download the Call of Duty Black Ops demo. Unfortunately, these new maps are not included in the Black Ops demo, but if you haven’t played Black Ops yet, the demo will give you a great experience.

The Black Ops Escalation DLC is on sale for $14.99.

A new Call of Duty Black Ops DLC has been announced (via Kotaku Australia) and it is slated for a May 3rd, 2011 release date.

There are four new multiplayer maps included in this pack: Hotel, Stockpile, Zoo, and Convoy. There will also be a new zombie map called Call of the Dead.

Escalation would be the second content pack released by Treyarch for Black Ops. First Strike was the first DLC released back in February for the Xbox and PS3. Expect the price of this DLC to be the same $14.99 as Black Ops: First Strike. Here is an advertisement that has since been pulled from retail websites.

Neither Activision nor Treyarch have officially announced the release or development of this content pack. The above image could very well be a fake photo created by a fan.

Whether this is legit or bogus is up to you. I don’t doubt we will see another Black Ops expansion. Sure it took Treyarch months to release a Call of Duty Black Ops demo, but who are we kidding here? A demo does not generate income as releasing an expansion pack.

Black Ops is the hottest game in the world right now, so if you are missing out on all of this then you better start playing the Black Ops demo.

Call of Duty Black Ops has a new Downloadable Content Pack available for the PC called, First Strike. The First Strike Content Pack is new for the PC, but Xbox gamers have been enjoying it since the beginning of February and PS3 fans, shortly after. Why it took Treyarch over a month to release the Black Ops DLC for the PC is anyone’s guess, but it’s pretty obvious their priority is not with the PC.

The PC version doesn’t include anything not already available for the Xbox and PS3. First Strike contains 5 new maps, 4 of them are new multiplayer maps called: Berlin Wall, Discovery, Kowloon, and Stadium. The 5th map is a Zombie mode only map called, Ascension.

The Black Ops DLC is now available and it costs $14.99 across all platforms.

If you are unsure if you should get the new Call of Duty Black Ops DLC pack. You can have a look at this demo feature the new maps found Black Ops: First Strike.

Treyarch finally releases a Call of Duty Black Ops demo nearly four months after the full version was released in November 2010. Black Ops set all kinds of sales records the day it was released and went on to sell millions of copies. Sales from this Call of Duty title have surpassed $1 billion. Divide that number by the $60 price tag for the standard edition and that equates to over 16 million copies of the game being sold. And this was all by Christmas 2010, a month and a half after the game has been out.

I ask, “What is the purpose of a Black Ops demo now?” Why did Activision and/or Treyarch feel the need to release a demo so long after the game has been out? Are they hoping to convert some people who have been undecided about purchasing the game by letting them sample a demo? Activision can’t be that greedy, can they? So many open ended questions only to be answered with another question.

I don’t think Call of Duty Black Ops needs a demo. In fact, I don’t think any Call of Duty game coming out in the future should require a playable demo. The COD franchise is a cash cow. There are millions of loyal fans who will flock to midnight sale events ready to throw their money at the next Call of Duty. A new Call of Duty title has become expected each year, just as a new Madden football game is.

The history of successful prior COD games is what sells the next, not a demo. As long as Treyarch and Infinity Ward continue to pump out enjoyable Call of Duty games, gamers will happily pay for it. They expect each COD game to be as good as the last, if not better.

On June 22nd, 2010, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon had Video Game Week and they debuted a Call of Duty Black Ops demo. What’s great about this video, at the time of its airing on national TV in June, it was 5 months away from Call of Duty Black Ops scheduled release date. Very enticing and such a tease to watch an awesome demo of a game that was still months away before you could play it.

In this video you can see Jimmy Fallon taking the controls of an Hind helicopter as he fires missiles at the Vietcong along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The helicopter flying looks like it’s on rails as opposed to being able to control the flying.

Some people confuse a beta and a demo and at times think they are both the same. It’s understandable to think that way, because nowadays many times gamers will see a playable beta, but will never see a demo for the game. It’s a great way to try the game before you decide to buy it.

Demo

A demo, such as a Call of Duty demo, is a short segment of the retail product. A demo has very limited content and features compared to the full retail version, but compared to a beta, the amount of content is about the same. A demo should not contain any bugs or glitches and should be problematic free as it is intended to be a small reflection of the full version. A demo can be released prior to the retail version, just like a beta, and some times a demo is released after the product’s official release date. A demo is to help the customer decide on purchasing the game, where as a beta is to help the developers test the game prior to an official release.

Beta

A Beta is an incomplete version of the retail game. The available content is limited just as it is in a demo. Beta versions are likely to contain bugs and glitches which need to be fixed. A “Closed Beta” is when a small group of select individuals have been given a playable copy of the unreleased game. Closed betas prevent the game from being leaked to the public and any issues that arise are kept behind closed doors. “Public Betas” are released to the public so anyone can download the beta and play the game. The purpose of the beta is to get people to test the game for any bugs or issues prior to the game being released. Most betas are released to the public as a great way to stress test servers and to test how the game runs on a wide variety of PC’s. Some may also see the beta as a marketing tool. A convenient way to release part of a video game to the public to create some hype or buzz about the game before its release. When the full version of the game its retail, the beta version has long since been closed and is no longer playable.
